Grandma Hope

This Mother's Day weekend is extra meaningful to me as my Grandma Hope has just been placed on hospice care. Grandma hope is 88 years old, and her heart has decided to start calling it quits. She has been in and out of the hospital for the past month, but has now decided to stay home and let whatever happens happen. I am really hoping that she holds on a few more weeks until our visit back to Colorado. I want to sit with her and hold her hand one more time.

My grandma has one of the sweetest and most fun personalities of all time. She loves to laugh, sing, play the piano, watch LOST and wheel of fortune, hold babies, and eat dessert.  I feel like if we had grown up together, we would have been good friends. In her younger years she was very active and had a really goofy sense of humor. She married my Grandpa Marvin who I never knew, but was said to be the king of practical jokes. I can just picture them laughing together. They will be again soon.

Grandma has outlived two husbands and two of her four children. She has seen her family members fight in wars, with only some returning. She has seen her nine grandchildren become adults, and bring forth her seven great-grandchildren. She has been through the ups and downs and a long life, and through it all she has experienced the love of her savior.

My Uncle Brent, her youngest son, is a pastor here in Oregon. But currently he is in Colorado with grandma. He sent out an email to some of the people in his church today and I will end this blog by including and excerpt from it (emphasis mine).

"Well in case you didn't know I am currently in Denver helping with my mom who is now in Hospice care.  It's always a little strange for me to be back in the "ole stomping grounds" of Denver, and even more strange under these circumstances to watch my mom slowly fail and fade.  I am comforted by the wonderful truth that my mom is one of the Lord's faithful followers.  It is amazing to watch the sweet Spirit she has in these days, enjoying family and friends and not complaining about anything.  My mom and I have had some great talks and I hope I can have such a God honoring attitude in my last months of life.  Of course no one knows when our last day is on "this side" , so we are enjoying all the days that the Lord gives mom."
