The Maitlands

We were so happy for the opportunity to visit our great friends. Trevor and Paige Maitland graduated from Multnomah with Bryce. This past summer the third member of their family, baby Piper, was born and they all packed up and moved to Georgia where Trevor attends law school. Our 6 day long visit was priceless to us. The Maitlands were incredibly hospitable and we were refreshed with relaxation, good conversation, and lots of pizza rolls. We are so blessed to know the Maitlands. Here are some of the things we love about them:

If we had to pick one word to describe Trevor it would probably be "honest." This guy is who he is, and that is a great thing. He knows he is a sinner who has been redeemed through the blood of Christ. He doesn't do things out of obligation and he doesn't create a false depiction of himself. This opens us up to be ourselves around him and know that we won't be looked down on for our short comings. He cherishes the gospel and has a good understanding of the "real world." He shows love and honor to his wife and baby and takes joy in them. He works hard at law school in order to use his degree to spread the gospel in the future. And he has one of the best laughs of all time.

Paige treasures the gospel. It is always amazing and encouraging to witness the joy she has in God. She truly has a hunger to know God better and delights in spending time reading and in prayer. She is so smart and is constantly trying to think though things clearly. She is open and promotes good conversation. She is a good wife and understands the dynamic of respecting and being a friend to her husband. She realizes the weighty responsiblity of being a mother and relies greatly on the wisdom God to guide how she relates to Piper on a daily basis. She loves the people around her. She is an artist and seems to make everything she touches a bit more beautiful. She is a talented seamstress, cook, photographer, and pianist. And she has really good taste.

Baby Piper is beautiful! She has a great smile and laugh. She is a pleasure to be around and we are excited to see her personality develop as she gets bigger.

The Maitlands have encouraged us to be passionate, to be ourselves, to love the redeeming work of Christ more, to invest our talents, and to enjoy a good bourbon and coke. We love you guys! Thanks for giving us an awesome vacation.

  1. Emily,
Both Trevor and I must say Thank You for these words.... but that we don't deserve them. God knows what sinners we are! But yet He loves us immeasurably. He is the reason we have the breath of life, not to mention all the other blessings He has given. He's the reason you could say things like this about broken human beings. Thank you that you see the uniqueness that God has given each one of His children :)
This is encouraging to me (us) during this time of struggle. You are a good friend. We love you too. Thanks for pouring out your resources and time to be our friends. You guys are amazing.
